KERKUS Forest School is an educational, fun project that fosters creative learning in a natural environment. Forest School has demonstrated success with children of all ages. By regular visits to the same woodland or nature site and through free play participants can learn to handle risks, be more resilient and to use their own initiative and problem solving in co-operation with others.
Activities during FS are varied and challenging but always achievable. Each child moves at their own pace, there are no marks or pressure to achieve. Children are encouraged to use all their senses, to touch, feel and explore the natural environment, for instance while collecting leaves, sticks or interesting stones.
Every day is different at Forest School depending on the needs and interest of participants, weather, season and the different sticks, stones, animals…found or introduced at FS sites. In other words, whatever catches children’s imaginations. However there are a few things that are always present: child led play, exploration and connection with each other and with nature!
What our families and students say about us
“I didn’t know much about Forest School – FS – until our son started with KERKUS Forest School. He loves it! He constantly talks about FS and their activities, and draws pictures about it too! His confidence and play has been transformed. I can’t recommend this activity enough… Great that this environment for learning is available in Dublin”– Parent
“I could use my imagination and make up stuff!” – 5-year old student
